When I was substitute teaching an English class for seniors in High School, I wrote the instructions for the day in cursive. 90% of the students couldn’t read it so I had to break them into groups and teach remedial cursive. It broke my heart and frightened me a little. Especially since all my students in Japan (Middle School) had almost flawless cursive.

My elementary school insisted on teaching cursive to students, but in the third grade. My mom had taught it to me when I was six, so while they were teaching the kids in first grade printing, I was writing in cursive and getting in trouble for it because I wasn’t doing the assignments correctly.

I’m not even sure why I did it because I really hated writing in cursive and still do and now that I’m an adult and can do what I want I write in all-caps because my handwriting is terrible and it’s a favor to the world.
